How to Convert an MP4 to an MP4 for the iPod
Whereas MPEG-4 files (MP4) are a widely used format for audio files, the MPEG-4 format used specifically for iPods is MPEG-4 AVC, also known as M4V. The iTunes program by Apple allows you to convert MP4 files in your iTunes 
Things You'll Need:
- iTunes 8 or later
- Step 1
Open the
iTunes program, and click "File" at the top of the iTunes menu on your PC or at the top of the screen on your Macintosh computer.
- Step 2
Select "Add File to Library" from the submenu and locate the MP4 file. Double-click the file to add it to the library or click the file to highlight it and click the "Choose' button.
- Step 3
Select the "Movies" tab under the Library section in the iTunes source list and select the MP4 file.
- Step 4
Select "Advanced" at the top of the iTunes menu and click "Create iPod or iPhone Version" from the submenu.
- Step 5
Press "Backspace" or "Delete" key on your computer's keyboard to erase the original MP4 file and click "Delete" on the pop-up box to confirm the file deletion.
