How to Copy a Friend's iPod to Your Library

One of the great things about having a close friend is sharing. Whether it's clothes, food or even money, having someone to share with can be mutually beneficial. That benefit also extends to music for the iPod, which can also be shared. By connecting your friend's iPod to your computer, accessing his iTunes account and clicking a few buttons, you'll be able to copy music purchased from iTunes from his iPod into your iTunes library. You can download and run a third-party software, such as iCopyExpert, to copy any of his iPod content to your iTunes library.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your friend's iPod
  • Dock connector to USB cable (supplied with iPod)
  • Computer with iTunes 8 or later
  • Your friend's iTunes Store account ID and password
  • iCopyExpert (or other third-party software)

    Using iTunes to Copy iTunes Purchases

  1. Step1

    Open iTunes on your computer.

  2. Step2

    Click on "Store" in the main iTunes control menu located at the top of iTunes.

  3. Step3

    Scroll down to "Authorize Computer" and click on it to select it.

  4. Step4

    Enter your friend's iTunes Store account ID and password and click the "Authorize" button. The authorize button is located in the bottom right corner of the popup window. Entering this information will allow your friend's iTunes purchases to be played on your computer.

  5. Step5

    Connect your friend's iPod to your computer using an iPod dock connector to USB cable, which is supplied with the iPod.

  6. Step6

    Click on "File" in the main iTunes menu at the top of the iTunes interface.

  7. Step7

    Scroll to "Transfer Purchases from iPod" and click on it to transfer the music from your friend's iPod to your computer.

  8. Using iCopyExpert to Copy iPod Library

  9. Step1

    Open iCopyExpert on your computer. You can download this program from the "Resources" link below.

  10. Step2

    Connect your friend's iPod to your computer with the dock connector to USB cable -- iCopyExpert will recognize your iPod and show all of the songs, playlists, ratings and all of the other information stored on your iPod.

  11. Step3

    Click on "All Songs" in the toolbar on the left-hand side of iCopyExpert.

  12. Step4

    Click "Select All" from the menu at the top of iCopyExpert. This will highlight all of the songs on your iPod.

  13. Step5

    Click on "Copy to iTunes" button at the top of iCopyExpert. By doing this you will copy all of the songs from your iPod into your iTunes library and they will appear there the next time you launch iTunes.
